pre-Kindergarten

eARLY LEARNING PROGRAM foR CHILDREN 4 to 5 years of age

Our Pre-Kindergarten Program is designed for children ages 4 years to 5 years. At our Academy, your child will learn the framework for observation, problem-solving and critical thinking, through our STEM curriculum. We teach a science enriched philosophy, where your child is encouraged to explore through hands-on experiences. Your child will have plenty of opportunities to explore, discover and expand their knowledge of the world around them.

CURRICULUM

Our choice regarding curriculum was not taken lightly and was researched by our administration and staff thoroughly. We had goals and very high standards that we wanted to allow our students to get the most out of the most valuable learning time of their lives.

We have been using the Connect 4 Learning Curriculum (C4L) for several years. We found that C4L’s approach to learning was right on target for us. Too few Pre-Kindergarten classrooms provide opportunities to engage in interdisciplinary learning, choosing instead to focus on one or two areas.

FOUNDATIONS IN MATH, SCIENCE, LITERACY AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL

Using C4L research-based and classroom-tested foundations in mathematics, science, literacy, and social-emotional, C4L weaves together all four domains to ensure that each subject is addressed meaningfully and comprehensively with each child.

PROJECT BASED

A large part of C4L curriculum is project-based, which allows children to learn key concepts across multiple domains of learning.

C4L features six curriculum units that are focused on supporting children’s development often comprehensive cognitive processes:

• Communicating and Representing
• Cooperating
• Comparing and Classifying
• Creating, Imaging, and Innovative
• Asking Questions and Seeking Information
• Observation
• Persisting, Attending, and Self-Regulation
• Reasoning and Problem Solving
• Making Sense
• Using Tools Strategically

DAILY LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Your child will learn invaluable personal skills while attending Bug Lady’s Science Academy.   We encourage children to explore and investigate the world around them, through a mixture of daily activities.

Our daily curriculum begins with a sequence of math and science topics and integrates language, literacy, and social-emotional skills as natural components within each activity and lesson.

OUR UNIQUE SCIENCE FUNDAMENTALS

We also have a wildly different science program that is unique to just us! Our Animal Sciences Early Learning Program was developed specifically with our students and our animals in mind. We have close to 300 animals and insects on-site for our students to observe, interact with, and learn about. Our approach will foster a love of science and an understanding of animals that will last a lifetime.

Our Art teacher has a different spin on the science of art! In this program, she introduces students to famous artists and helps students explore the techniques used. Our annual Spring Art Show is an opportunity for families to see the year of art. It is always a fun time for all!

Science Fundamentals help children will learn why the sky is blue, how milk can become chocolate milk and where fire comes from.  Children will get to explore science concepts like chemistry, biology, engineering, and physics through hands-on experiences.

Our Science of Art program also includes other enrichment opportunities like Yoga & Mindfulness.  This will allow students to begin focusing on one’s awareness of the present moment, calmly accepting one’s feelings and thoughts, and self-regulation.  This is an important stage of development for an early learner that sets the foundation for their social-emotional growth.

Our Spanish teacher with her love of this language makes learning Spanish easy. She allows students to explore and learn the language through songs, numbers, and understanding phrases.

PRACTICAL PROJECT BASED LEARNING AND PLAY

Children will make practical connections daily, through four domains of learning: Practical, Project-Based approach to classroom instruction, and plenty of time allotted for play. We offer opportunities to learn and make connections, as children naturally explore and engage with math and science during play.

TEACHES INDEPENDENCE, SELF HELP SKILLS AND SELF REGULATION

Our curriculum and teachers also encourage a strong classroom community by focusing on the most important school connections: among the child and peers, teachers, and the school. While working on those skills we also work towards a sense of Independence, self-help skills, and including self-regulation. Children learning these skills at an early age will master a sense of self-worth that will carry on with them for years to come.
